Don Valley Park Ravine House
Purchased during the height of the pandemic, this residence immediately captivated the new homeowners with its expansive windows and breathtaking views into the Don Valley ravine. Rather than downsizing, they made a deliberate choice to invest in a larger home—one that could be thoughtfully renovated to reflect their lifestyle and values.
Despite having undergone two prior developer-led renovations, the home suffered from substandard construction and poor-quality finishes. Facing technical issues such as leaks and failing stucco, the owners engaged our team to undertake a comprehensive renovation, transforming the space both functionally and aesthetically.
Key modifications included reconfiguring the main floor layout and eliminating a double-height living space at the rear of the house to create a new second-floor home office. Custom millwork was designed throughout, including built-in cabinetry for the office and extensive upgrades to the primary bedroom suite - featuring new storage solutions in the bedroom, walk-in closet, and ensuite bathroom.
On the ground floor, we introduced display cabinetry in the dining room, added custom millwork in the front entry, and incorporated refined wall panelling to create depth and texture. New flooring, upgraded fireplaces, and a reimagined lighting strategy further enhanced the interior experience.
A complete kitchen redesign focused on efficiency and connection to the landscape. The new plan includes a hidden coffee station, integrated desk, bar stools at the island, and a breakfast area surrounded by windows on three sides—seamlessly opening to views of the ravine. We also revised the garage entry to include a distinct mudroom zone with pantry and closet storage.
In the lower level, a new fitness space benefits from a full wall of windows and large operable doors, allowing workouts to extend onto the adjacent patio. A secondary home office was also created, complete with a lounge area and integrated media system.
To complement the architecture, we curated furniture and rugs that bring cohesion and comfort to the interiors. Outdoor upgrades included a redesigned pool area and new landscaping that enhances privacy while embracing the natural setting.
The completed home is a serene, contemporary retreat within the city—a space that supports aging in place while remaining intimately connected to nature.
